Aune was born in Viitasaari, Finland on May 20, 1926. She was the 6th child out of 10 (the 1st daughter) born to Juho Vainikainen and Helmi Kempainen. In 1952, she immigrated to Toronto, Canada where she met and married Pentti Huomo (also from Finland). By 1955, their 1st daughter, Rita was born. In 1956, the family immigrated to America and settled in New York City where their 1st son, Gary was born. Another son, Peter was born in 1961. Another move, in 1966 brought them to southern California. And in 1970 their 4th child, daughter Tina was born. Aune was a stay at home wife and mother during this time. Her family was her top priority. In 1972, they moved again. This time to San Jose, California and Aune decided to start her own business. She became the owner and operator of a residential care home in Campbell, California. She was very successful and eventually opened a 2nd residential care home. That’s what Aune did the best. She knew how to take care of people. She knew how to make them feel welcome. She retired in 1993, and Pentti and Aune moved to Sonoma, California where a large community of Finnish people lived. They had many, many friends there. Pentti passed away in 1997 and then Peter passed away in 2001. Aune decided that she wanted to be closer to her children, so she moved back to San Jose in 2002. The last 10 years of her life was spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved being with them and wanted to see them grow up. She was loved be her family. And she will be greatly missed.
